Uptown Cheapskate and Kid to Kid have partnered with buildOn to fund and build schools in rural communities in developing countries. In April 2018, buildOn completed a new school in the village of Badiguan, Nepal funded by your donations. 25% of the Nepalese population live below the poverty line and 36% are illiterate. The village of Badiguan has approximately 2,200 residents of which 550 are young students. The students of Badiguan previously learned in seven temporary classrooms with 17 teachers teaching ten grade levels. Building a second school block has ensured that this growing community will have enough classroom space for all of its children and that more teachers can be brought in to teach additional grade levels.
Sagar Sunar is 13 years old and in the 5th grade. His favorite subject is math and he wants to be a teacher when he grows up. Through the donations we've collected at our Charity Fill-A-Bag Sales, you've helped break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and expectations for students like Sagar. The students of Badiguan thank you for your donations!
