Uptown Cheapskate and Kid to Kid have partnered with buildOn to fund and build schools in rural communities in developing countries. In April 2022, buildOn completed a new school in St. Antoine, Haiti funded by your donations. The national poverty rate is 58.6%, and the extreme poverty rate is 24.7%, with a quarter of the population living below the poverty line of $1.90 a day. Nearly half of all Haitians over the age of 15 are illiterate. With the next nearest proper school a 6 km walk over challenging terrain, the community members of St. Antoine were left with few options for their children. Through your partnership, buildOn was able to provide the village of St. Antoine with a proper school block and latrines.
Dejour is 11 years old and in the 5th grade and is one of 56 girls in St. Antoine who will be able to further empower themselves and their community through education. Dejour loves to learn and she wants to be a nurse when she grows up. Through the donations we've collected at our Charity Fill-A-Bag Sales, you've helped break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and expectations for students like Dejour. The students of St. Antoine thank you for your donations!
