Uptown Cheapskate and Kid to Kid have partnered with buildOn to fund and build schools in rural communities in developing countries. In August 2021, buildOn completed a new school in Mponda, Malawi funded by your donations. 71% of the Malawian population live below the poverty line and 38% over age 15 are illiterate. The community of Mponda’s primary school has met several challenges the past in terms of having sufficient materials. Currently made up of both permanent and temporary classrooms, the school’s first lack was based on its shortage of classrooms. With a student body of more than 1,000 youths, more than half of the student body was left attending class either in a temporary classroom or simply outside under a tree. With your help, we have helped alleviate the problem.
Austin is 14-years old and in the 6th grade. His favorite subject is English and he wants to be a doctor when he grows up. For fun, he likes to play football (soccer). Through the donations we've collected at our Charity Fill-A-Bag Sales, you're helping break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and expectations for students like Austin. The students of Mponda thank you for your donations!
