Meet the Owners of Uptown North Charleston~
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- Local business owners Olivia-Marie Smith and Marie-Claude Smith, known to many as M.C, will hold the Grand Opening of their Uptown Cheapskate store, on Thursday, February 8th. The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 4:00PM, with the North Charleston Chamber of Commerce. All in the community are welcome to join in this celebration.
This trendy teen and young adult fashion reseller, located at 4950 Centre Pointe, in North Charleston, pays shoppers cash for their clothes, shoes and other apparel items and resells them at highly discounted prices.
Just over a year ago, Olivia went to check out the nearby Uptown Cheapskate and sell her gently used clothing. She was so impressed with the concept, she told her mom, M.C. all about it. Soon after, M.C. went to shop and discovered Uptown Cheapskate was a franchise and suggested to Olivia they open their own store. A year later it’s become a reality for the mother and daughter.
For several weeks, the store has been open to the public to purchase customers’ gently used fashions, filling the racks in preparation for the Grand Opening. Customers will then be able to come in and shop brand name and designer clothing and accessories at up to 70 percent less than retail.
Uptown Cheapskate focuses on buying current styles of apparel, shoes and accessories that appeal to a wide range of teens and young adults. After the Grand Opening, Uptown Cheapskate will continue to pay customers cash on the spot or 25 percent more in store credit for their gently used items.
In addition to carrying hundreds of recycled items, the new Uptown Cheapskate store also offers a variety of new products, including jewelry and assorted apparel.
What interests M.C most about becoming a franchise owner, is the opportunity to work as her own boss and more importantly, provide ways to give back to the community. Her diversified work experience; from sales clerk, to teacher, to flight attendant, to radiologic technologist, all have prepared her for this day as her own store owner. She is hard working, dedicated and loyal, just ask her friends, family and staff.
Olivia looks up to her mom for how hard she works and admires where they are today because of her hard work and dedication to make things happen. Her other daughters, Ceara and Bailee, also had fond words about their mother, M.C. “She’ll light up the room the moment she walks in,” says Ceara. “She’s always taking charge and being the amazing leader that she is.”
Bailee, was able to sum her mother up in one word: “selfless.” “She’s a real fighter and definitely a hard-worker. Her smile can light up a room and definitely make anyone’s day better!”
M.C. considers her staff like family and Daniel, one of the store managers shares; “I’ve had faith in her and her drive to succeed, which in turn has motivated me to stay focused, even when the odds are against you.” He sums up his feelings about his experience working with M.C as “grateful.” He wishes her nothing but success on this venture and will do whatever is possible to help in the growth and development of their store.
The Grand Opening will be a celebration for the store and the community, one not to be missed!
